Highway One Stops

Renegade in San Francisco

First up on my trip down Highway One, was a stop in San Francisco for an oceanside dance party! I danced the afternoon away while enjoying the smooth, refreshing taste of Seltzy. If you visit San Francisco, here are a few other ideas for enjoying your day:

  • Watch sunset from Lands End Trail

  • Have a picnic in Golden Gate Park

  • Admire the Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach, Battery Spencer Park, or Crissy Field

  • Have a Seltzy before going bar hopping in the Haight

  • Go sailing on the San Francisco Bay

Whichever activity you choose, Seltzy is the best hard seltzer to accompany you! The three unique flavors are like no other hard seltzer I’ve tried. You can choose between Kicked Back: Cucumber Lychee, The Chill: Ginger-Lime, and The Crush: Huckleberry-Lingonberry.

Sunset at Shark Fin Cove

As we continue to head South down the California Coast, the next stop is Shark Fin Cove in Davenport. This is one of my favorite places in California to watch the sunset. I made myself a Seltzy cocktail, which was recommended on the side of the can. I loved the pairing of huckleberry and lingonberry with lemon and rosemary. It was the perfect drink to sip as I watched the sun go down!

Some other great spots to check out in this area include Davenport Pier Beach and the Davenport Bluffs.

Visiting the Bixby Bridge

Next up on our road trip is a stop at the famous Bixby Bridge. This is one of the first landmarks of Big Sur if you are coming from the North. It’s also featured in the TV show, Big Little Lies, (although, I don’t know why the characters were always driving across it if they all live in Monterey).

I opened up a Kicked Back: Cucumber-Lychee here and enjoyed the view! I love that Seltzy is low-calorie and refreshing, making it an easy beverage to sip.

Camping in Andrew Molera State Park

There are a few wonderful places to camp in Big Sur, one of them being Trail Camp in Andrew Molera State Park. This is a walk-in campground, which requires a quarter mile hike from the parking lot to the campsites. After making a few trips between the car and camp to unload all of my gear, it was time to enjoy a Seltzy. Each flavor is natural and subtle tasting, which I prefer to other seltzers with an overpowering flavor.

In my opinion, the best campsites at Andrew Molera Trail Camp are sites 7, 18, 21, 22 (where I camped), and 24. The campground is mostly an open field so some of the sites lack privacy. The ones I listed above are close to a tree or other foliage so they feel a little more private. Choose a lower numbered site if you want to save a little walking distance.

Another great thing about camping in Andrew Molera State Park is that the beach is a short walk away. It’s a great spot to watch the sunset, just make sure you bring a headlamp for the hike back to camp in the dark.

Picnic at a Big Sur Viewpoint

Big Sur has so many amazing viewpoints that you really can’t go wrong with any for a picnic! Just find a nice place to pull off the road and you’ll be all set! Some of my favorite stops are:

  • Hurricane Point

  • Pfeiffer Beach

  • Limekiln State Park

  • Mill Creek Picnic Area

  • Sand Dollar Beach

I stopped at the Mill Creek Picnic Area and enjoyed a nice lunch of focaccia sandwiches with burrata cheese accompanied by a Ginger-Lime Seltzy.

Sunset at McWay Falls

The last stop you should make on a Northern California Coastal trip is a stop at McWay Falls, located in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. This is the best place to watch the sunset. I loved the golden light illuminating McWay Falls as it cascaded onto the beach below. There are two main areas to watch the sunset at McWay Falls. The first is to park at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and to walk down the trail to the McWay Falls viewpoint. Another great viewing location is on the pull-out just north of the main parking lot on the right hand side of the road (as you drive south). This second location is sometimes blocked off by cones so you won’t be able to park there but it will be less crowded than the main trail. Just be careful walking along or near Highway One and be sure to stay away from the cliff edges.

About Seltzy

Seltzy is a small batch hard seltzer produced by Roadhouse Brewing Co. All three flavors have just 90 calories and contain 4% ABV. You can find a 12 pack of Seltzys in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming or California or be sure to stop in and visit Roadhouse Brewing Co. next time you are in the Jackson Hole area!

Getting to the California Central Coast

The best airport to fly into is SFO in San Francisco. Other good options include San Jose Airport or Oakland Airport. You can also drive if you live in California or nearby states like Nevada or Oregon. You’ll want a car to visit all of these stops so make sure you rent one ahead of time if you’re planning to fly. Once you get to San Francisco, all of these stops are easily accessed off Highway One.

Some Reminders

Please drink responsibly. Enjoy a Seltzy when you are done driving for the day or make sure you have a sober designated driver. Always remember to leave no trace and pack out all of your trash from these coastal areas and anywhere you travel to. There is no cell service in Big Sur so plan ahead before visiting this part of the coast. I like to download an offline map before heading out on any trip.
